Tell your story better

Shit happens. What to say when it does.

You'll find another copywriting tip here the day after tomorrow. But I won't be posting tomorrow — I’m sorry.

I'm caught on an urgent client project and there’s nothing in the Back-up Posts Box.

Lesson learned. I'm rethinking my post crafting process. In future, there'll always be posts in the pipeline, just in case.

Meanwhile, take a look at some of my recent posts for some handy tips you may have missed.

OK, so I made that up. But when you have bad news to share (and I appreciate someone not posting for one whole day isn’t exactly terrible news), be clear and direct about it.

Be honest. Be accountable. Be empathetic.

As much as you can, say what went wrong, why that happened and what you're going to do to improve things.

Most importantly, show the path forward. Say what will happen next and when, even if all you can offer is a promise to update on the bad news situation at the same time tomorrow.

Shit happens.

Make the most of the moment to be authoritative, credible and decent.
